Pick your heroes normally. Share a code, download matching abilities, and start a new brawl.

Requires a game server that loads the mod. The built-in Custom Game menu uses a remote server and will not apply these ability changes. Local Street Brawl hosting still needs testing.

Create or join a match

Hosting? Leave this blank for a fresh roll. Joining friends? Paste their match code.

0 = unlimited, 1 = no duplicates, 2 = at most twice, 3 = at most three times, and so on across all hero kits. Players choosing the same hero still share its kit.

Shared match codes restore these options automatically. Players choosing the same hero still share its kit.

Abilities stay in their original slots, with ultimates restricted to slot 4. Each hero keeps the same kit for the whole match.

Install with Deadworks

Follow these steps on each player's PC.

Before you start: Set up the Deadworks launcher, then fully close Deadlock.

  1. Download the host's pack

    Enter the host's full match code above and download the VPK or match ZIP. If you chose the ZIP, extract it first.

  2. Open your mod folder

    In Steam, right-click Deadlock and choose Manage → Browse local files. From there, open:

    game\citadel\deadworks_mods

    Folder missing? Complete the Deadworks launcher setup first.

  3. Copy the VPK

    Your download is already named pak99_dir.vpk. Copy it directly into the folder above.

    Never overwrite the launcher's pak01_dir.vpk or another mod. If pak99_dir.vpk already exists, choose another unused number. Remember your filename for updates.

  4. Disable older packs

    Disable older Chaos Brawl and hero-randomizer packs in your mod folders or mod manager. Keep only one Chaos Brawl pack enabled.

  5. Launch and join

    Launch Deadlock through Deadworks, then join the host's server.

    Host: Select the same full code with /seed before readying players.

Updating your pack

Close Deadlock. Replace your pack with the new host's pack, keeping your chosen filename. Relaunch through Deadworks.

Returning to normal play

Close Deadlock, move your Chaos Brawl VPK out of the folder, then relaunch. Leaving the server does not disable the mod.

Folder help and compatibility notes

Example install folder:

E:\SteamLibrary\steamapps\common\Deadlock\game\citadel\deadworks_mods

Your Steam library drive may differ. Use the game installation on your PC, not the dedicated server folder.

deadworks_addons\vpks is for server-advertised downloads. Putting this pack there does not install it as a startup mod.

Ability upgrades and item imbuing still need live verification with this setup. Launcher search-path reference.

Using a mod manager instead?

With Deadlock closed, import the downloaded VPK using your mod manager and enable addon loading. Use one installation method only. The server and every player must use matching assignments.

Next game, new seed

Finish the match, close Deadlock, and generate a new code. Everyone downloads and installs the new pack before relaunching.

Two players choosing the same hero receive the same abilities. Remove or disable the pack to restore normal kits.
